Bowling ball coverstocks are essentially all poly-urethane based products. These products include additive materials and curing process variations which chiefly determine the final outcome of the bowling ball construction process.


The industry refers to various coverstock blends, however, in the following way: plastic, urethane, reactive resin, hybrid reactive, and particle materials. Each of these coverstock material variations yield to the performance range capabilities a given bowling ball possesses.

Typically, the plastic and urethane coverstocks are found in entry performance balls available in 10 lbs - 16 lb. weight, the reactive resin coverstocks are found in general performance range balls from 12 - 16 lbs., and hybrid or particle coverstocks in pro performance range bowling balls from 12 - 16 lbs.


Naturally, the coverstock is the most important factor in determining the right choice of ball for you but don't overlook the importance of the inner core designs. As we alluded to earlier, manufacturers will design cores made of urethane and polymer based products in varying density ranges, shapes, number of pieces, and sizes so the end result will influence the overall ball motion predictably as the ball travels down the lane.
